Translation and legalization of documents

General Instructions

Applicants wishing to have documents legalized in Ghana must book an appointment through the outsourcing agency VFS Global, using the “Italy Global” app (for Android or iOS).

Applicants wishing to have documents legalized in Togo must book an appointment with the Honorary Consulate General in Lomé by email (lome.onorario@esteri.it).

The documents to be legalized must be submitted in original form and must always be attached to a copy of the ID of the holder(s).

Documents not drawn up on multilingual forms provided for by international conventions must be translated into Italian.

If applicant is unable to appear in person for the submission and collection of documents, they may appoint to a representative. The delegate must attend the appointment with the documents to be legalized, the applicant’s authorization, and their own identity document.


NOTES

  • In order to verify the authenticity of the submitted documents, the Embassy reserves the right to request additional documentation;

  • Non-compliant translations will be returned to applicants for correction;

  • In order to be eligible for legalization, documents must bear an original handwritten signature;

  • Ghanaian marriage certificates must be accompanied by the relevant verification letter (with Italian translation);

  • All documents issued in Togo must be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Togo before they can be legalized by the Embassy.


!!IMPORTANT NOTICE!!

As of 24 November 2025, legalizations required for family reunification purpose may be submitted together with the visa application, by selecting the relevant option in the app when booking the visa appointment.
