Economic diplomacy

Investment and trade are certainly key to ensuring growth and wealth. Italy and Ghana have a long-standing cooperation in the economic field and to facilitate business opportunities between Ghanaian and Italian companies. Historically, three projects carried out by Italian companies have had particular importance in the development of Ghana: the Akosombo dam, the Tema refinery and the offshore oil and gas field discovered at Cape Three Points by ENI, the largest private investment of all West Africa, bringing Italy among the country’s first investors.

Italy is the 2nd manufacturing country in the European Union, thanks to its ability to transform inputs and create added value, in a socially, environmentally and economically sustainable manner. Today, technology and industrial equipment already cover the largest share of Italian exports to Ghana.

There is an Italian Trade Agency Office at the Italian Embassy (contacts), aimed at providing support to businesses and enhancing trade between Italy and Ghana.

Italy and Ghana signed an agreement in 2004 to avoid double taxation. The text in Italian and English is available here below:
